Abandoning of Airbases and Military Aviation Facility Assets Overseas

Does it really make sense for the United States Military to abandon old air bases over seas? Such important assets may be needed in the future; perhaps not now or in this decade but at some point in the not so distant future. We must consider the ever changing political climate and the ways of the world before giving up important military assets in far regions of the world. We will need these bases and it seems rather insane to simply walk from such vital facilities now, with such an unknown number of potential eventualities and futures.

Currently our US Military is considering getting rid of several over seas bases and those bases cost the US Taxpayer billions to build. Often our rational is based on money flows, trade deficits or political negotiation in the here and now and not thinking more long-term down the road. One thing any historian learns about allies and enemies is that like the Machiavellian world of friends and foes, nothing every stays the same and change, well that is just given.

America let's be smart about our over seas assets and lets think things thru. Some of these issues are complicated and they are serious and we need to look ahead several generations if we are to do the right thing for America's future. Consider all this in 2006.
